Reporting a fault

Using the report a fault tab allows you to submit fault reports concerning your area directly back to the Council. There are three key steps involved in this process.

Step 1. Choosing a Fault Type
The fault types are arranged by category in a list. Select the type that closest matches the problem you wish to report. If there is no appropriate fault type then use the ‘Other’ option from the bottom of the list. Upon selection to a fault type you will be automatically moved on to the next step.

Step 2. Choosing a fault location
LocalView gives you three ways to record the location of a fault.

  1. Using the currently selected location
If you have been working with LocalView prior to reporting your fault then you are likely to already have a ‘selected location’ specified. This location is displayed in the help bar below the tabs.
  2. Using an address to specify the location
If the fault is located at a specific address you can use the address search to identify the exact location. To specify an address, enter the address details into the appropriate boxes and click search. If you are having problems finding an address refer to the Using the address search section for more information.
  3. Using a map to specify the location
This option will allow you to use a map to accurately mark the location of the reported fault. Use the navigation tools to move around the map and then, working with the ‘Mark Fault Location’ tool, click on the map to indicate the location of the fault. For more details on how to work with the tools and the map refer to the Working with the map section. To ensure that information is recorded accurately the 'Mark Fault Location' tool will only mark a point once the map is displayed at an appropriately detailed scale. Use the zoom in tools to move in to this scale.

Step 3. Completing the fault report
The final step is to complete the fault report. The information collected will vary dependent on the type of fault selected. Enter as much information as you have as this will help the Council deal with your request as efficiently as possible; contact details must be provided for the incdent to be investigated. On completion of the fault report a page will be displayed to give you the unique reference number of the problem reported. Use this reference if you need to contact the Council about the problem in the future. If you entered an email address this information will also be emailed through to you for your records.
